At our school our computers are on standby most of the day and all of the night. When the computers are not on standby they are being used by pupils. If we turned the computers off at night then we would save a lot of energy.
Find this inappropriate?

At our school we leave the computers on stands by in the day and in the night. We never turn them off by the swith. But I'll ask the IT teachers if on the night we can turn them off by the switch.

Our school Computer blocks most stuff not like rude stuff but silly stuff like rollerblade sites and stuff ithink they should give us more access and stuff

sam it's not only the tecnology that is the problem in our schools but everything else as well like lighting and the use of electricity all round maybe if school closed for only 4 weeks in the summer and took an extra 2 weeks at christmas instead schools would use less electricity over the whole of the year

the nation is lazy- and its the next generation who will suffer the consequences of OUR generation's extreme carbon emissions. I know I need to be conscious of the fact that we're using so much carbon on a daily basis- smaller things like not leaving computers on standby are really neccessary. I feel a bit hypocritical as this carbon control website is on a computer- I'm using up carbon as I type!

if you turn a computer off to much it supposingly ruins the mother board but i think its a good idea and our school is the same

well technically it depends on what computers they are in my household we ahve about five home computer systems a 98, an xp home, an xp profess. notebook, and a xp media center. the medis center is the largest and most used computer the notebook is the smallest and used alot of power because of the battery. leaving computers on has veiws gfor and against one of which being that it may affect its preformance (by going faster or slower). the big computers that keep the microsoft networks and all the computing ntworks in the world going need to be kept on so the internet wont crash (again, lol). you would need more opinions on the subject depending on the uses, effects, the consumption, and how long they are kept on for. a GOOD POINT but you need more opinions i give a thumbs down for this. \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ | | | | | | | | | | | | down down down down down

this project is like saying 'switch the lights out on the way out'! It's a valid idea - but think bigger! think about areas such as transport and general public behavior.

there are so many people using the computers in schools that it wouldn't be practical to shut down and have to switch it back on every 10 minutes!

our school pcs are left on during the day and turneds off at night but they could be turned off when pupils leave the room to save energy and fuel

yeah but they are used for a gd reason and schools do need the computers so u can't just say turn them all off. also it proberly takes more power to keep turing the computers on and off than keepin them on for the day lol x

i agree .. our skwl computers are never switched off .. they are alllways on standby .. even at the weekend when skwl isnt on .. its reli stupid because even when teachers r told they say it isnt there responsibility .. but they are the teachers so it obviously is.. xx alex xx

It takes more energy to keep rebooting a computer all day. But you should turn them off at night.

Great idea - Try and talk to the bod that looks after the network. I know that in our school the software turns all the computers off at the end of the day so they are not on standby. Why don't they make them so that there is no standby in the first place!! Would also work for TV.
