Most school dinners are normaly ready meals that are heated up as each part of the meal comes in a huge industrial chunk! If the food was bought from local areas the carbon footprint would be lowered by loads and local areas would get more money, this could be achived if the council or goverment gave more money to schools for school dinners.
Find this inappropriate?

my school meals are made fresh on a daily basis. we have a salad bar, healthy and unhealthy bar. it's all very balanced! We only have chips on a certain day which is a friday! Hardly any of our meals are ready made and our carbon footprint is very low.

Our school meals are made in school and are not ready meals .!! So Not all schools should have this reputation for a bad carbon footprint for being sent ready meals Because not all schools go throught this process To get ready meals some are made fresh (:

I a very lucky, our school makes everything in the kitchen we have salads and wraps our dinners are nice. They use local food when they can.

Our school is trying to get us to eat healthy, getting rid of the sweets and junk, and replacing it with roast dinners or lasanga...but you can see them just putting stuff in the microwave and putting it in the serving dish... that cant be good for the enviroment.

as far as school meals go, as a parent if the hot dinners were ready made meals at my childs school, then my children wouldn't even stay hot dinner. as why would anybody give their child/ren ready meals!

well our school wants us to be healthy ! ! they have takin away all the chocolate,crisps and all the other good stuff even fizzy pop all we get is water or juice and dont get me started on our cantine meals ! ! ! LET US LIVE ! !

Our school food is ok because there is a big choice!! they have taken all the really nice stuff in the vendies way from us!!!! they make us so boring and unhyper it is so unfair!!! Bring back Coke and sweets and nice i repeat nice chocolate!!!!!! they want us to be healthy but that will never happen in a million years because people bring in their own sweets and coke and chocolate!!!!!

that's great, but, imagine if you were the government and you only had so much money. If they spent it all on school dinners, we'd all be complaining about other parts of our lives which are ruined because there hasn't been enought money spent on it.

our school charges 2.74 va day for grade F meat. I mean it! It's all either gristle or squishy! and your not allowed to have fresh fruit if you have anything else for dessert! Messed up!

Our school has recently begun suporting campaigns to improve childrens health. however this has NOT been reflected in the food, as they still sell cookies, paninis, pizzas and greasy breakfasts. They have gotten rid of all the water machines and fruit salads. This in mine, and alot of other opinions is not they way forward and no way to lose weight or become healthy. WHO AGREES?!

yesh polleh,,,they are VERY nutritional,,,,meh fave is a BIG handburger with extrah flies sided with a regular strawberry milksnake and yehh,,,i just love those vegtarian meals polleh,,,considering they were never fed any meat,,,they are surprisingly tastey. Yes, our meals are.,,um.,.,interesting., very nutritional, with varied meals each day. however we also sell alot of cakes and sugery snacks that make the pupils go hyper during lessons etc. i think that if our school was to switch to more healthy options such as salads, baguettes etc. and also included more VEGETARIAN options then more people would choose to eat at our school. Yes LiZzeh., then u can eat school dinners instead of cakes and cookies :-) Polleh xXx

i think they have tried but there is just not enough hours in the day to make it for the whole school thatr have dinners it would take a lot of effort ajd money which they just dont have sio they are doing a good job for what they are given they could do with salad bar though ... HUYTON RULES

Our school food has tried to change to 'healthy' but I don't think it has worked..! We still get people buying only sweet things like cake, buns etc There is also alot of chips, they make you fat etc! xxx

too b honest our skwl food isnt too bad .. its pretti average but there is a good variety .. the food with meat in it is stuff like proccessed chicken which is the only reli bad thing with the skwl food .. im a vegetarian so i get food from the salad and sandwich bar .. and all the food is locally made apart from the ready meals xx alex xx
