Teachers and parents

For parents

This website if for your children to take part in finding out how they can play a role in tackling climate change.

Help your child by providing the following information:

At home – explain how the home is heated.  Do you have gas radiators, electric fires or heaters?

Shopping – find out about seasonal food with your child and look for locally produced seasonal food.

Here you can see what is in season during the competition

Travelling – support your child to investigate some alternative routes to school.

This website provides information for parents who might have questions or concerns about walking or biking to school.

Holiday plans - why not look into train journeys for your holidays?
It can be an enjoyable way for children to learn about the place you are visiting.

Excellent website to plan journeys by train

PARENTS AND TEACHERS

For information on how you can find funding to help with an eco project in the home or at school, this is a useful website.

For teachers

Sheffield Hallam University Centre for Science Education have provided some materials for you to support investigation of the competition during during class time.

The materials have been designed for use by teachers for:
Key Stage 2 – 7-11 year olds
Key Stage 3 – 12-14 year olds

These tasks are presented as thinking and doing activities, where there is opportunity for pupils to work with others to consider what they think and feel about this issue, and how they can change their behaviour and practice to limit their carbon footprint.

Pupils are also required to consider how they will influence their peers, their school and their community to also make a change for the better. They will need to suggest creative forms of persuasion to campaign for and communicate their thinking.
